Korea’s Social Policy
Korea could combine a remarkable economic growth with a relatively equal income distribution. The government focused more on providing basic services such as education, training, public health, or water supply and less on cash handouts. In service provision, the government relied heavily on private-sector providers. These characteristics distinguish Korea from other countries in its approach to social policy.

New Challenges for Korean Economy in the 21st Century
This presentation will discuss about the Korea’s challenges of a decreasing trend of productivity growth combined with worsening income distribution amid aging population. To ensure sustainable and inclusive growth, we propose a simultaneous big push for greater economic freedom – through structural reforms to reduce labor market rigidities and regulations – and stronger social protections.
